Planning a road trip with a paper map is not complicated. It simply requires a different mindset.
Start by identifying your starting point and destination. Then look beyond the most direct route. Notice scenic highways, smaller connecting roads, and towns that are slightly off the main path.
Mark your primary route lightly in pencil. Circle two or three alternate roads in case you want to change direction along the way. Identify potential stops such as parks, viewpoints, or small towns.
Leave space for flexibility. The beauty of using a paper map is that you can see everything at once. You are not limited to what an algorithm suggests.
Bring a pencil, a highlighter, and curiosity. The best part of a road trip is rarely the fastest way there.
